Abstract

In May 2020, OceansAsia released a report detailing the urgent need to conserve Hong Kong’s finless porpoise, in response to the record high number of Indo-Pacific finless porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides) strandings in Hong Kong in 2019. The increasing number of strandings and the decreasing population size are a cause for concern. This paper summarises the extensive report of 2019 and provides updates on new strandings and emerging threats. This paper also provides a suite of recommendations in light of recent policy changes and ongoing research.
