Updated g(0) estimate for western North Pacific Bryde’s whales and its application to previous abundance estimates

An updated g(0) estimate for Bryde’s whale is made and applied to previous abundance estimates that considered g(0)=1. The g(0) estimates was obtained by applying mark-recapture distance sampling methods (MRDS) to sighting data from Independent Observer (IO) mode conducted during the IWC-POWER surveys in 2015 and 2016. Following suggestions from the Intersessional workshop on North Pacific Bryde’s whale Implementation Review, weighted harmonic mean of the g(0) estimates under good and bad Beaufort sea was obtained, by sub-areas.
