Abstract

As a means to promote regional collaboration, an extensive review of threats to river dolphins is being presented during this SC67B meeting. In this paper we describe plans for a Hydrovia Amazonica (waterway), a US$95 million contract by the Peru government for dredging over 4 main rivers in the Peru Amazon, including the Huallaga, Mara┼łon, Ucayali and the Amazonas. Concerns about the possible effect of this 2700 km via are discussed as well as its effect on Amazonian dolphins in Peru.
