Abstract

Fishing for piracatinga (Calophysus macropterus) has been causing problems for the conservation of dolphins in the Amazon. The Amazon river dolphin or boto (Inia geoffrensis) and the tucuxi (Sotalia fluviatilis) are classified as 'Endangered' (EN) by IUCN mainly due to negative interactions with fishing activities; and, for the boto, piracatinga fishing is the most emerging threat.
