Abstract

In order to aid the implementation of Resolution 11.22 on Live Capture of Cetaceans for Commercial Purposes, the CMS Secretariat developed best practice guidelines to assist CMS Parties interested in improving existing national legislation or developing new laws relating to the live capture of cetaceans from the wild for commercial purposes. This paper outlines the sections of the guidelines, which were endorsed through Res.11.22 (Rev.COP12) and highlights results of an analysis of countries' national legislation and the degree to which it addresses the provisions of the resolution.
