Progress report on the development of a permanent blue whale song reference library

At the 2016 IWC Scientific Committee meeting, we (B. Miller, F. Samaran, and A. Širović) proposed to develop a permanent blue whale song reference library. The purpose of the library was to be used by the research community to facilitate research on blue whale acoustics, as well as have the potential to provide information on geographic occurrence, habitat use, and impact of noise by offering “baseline” song types. The implementation was to be via a web-portal hosted on the IWC servers, thus making it permanent. This paper provides an update on the progress towards implementing this song library.
