Bycatch Mitigation Initiative ? 2022 update on progress

The IWC?s Bycatch Mitigation Initiative (BMI) is currently implementing its 2020-2024 workplan. This document provides a progress update on some key areas of work ? bycatch pilot projects, fundraising, capacity building and work in the Indian Ocean and other regions, in particular under the Common Oceans project. The sub-committee is invited to review and provide any feedback to the Secretariat. The IWC encourages and welcomes collaboration with the BMI Expert Panel and Standing Working Group members as well as other SC and CC representatives in addressing the various cetacean bycatch challenges around the world.
