The Southern Hemisphere Blue Whale Catalogue (SHBWC), sponsored by the IWC, is an internationally collaborative repository of photo-identification catalogues from throughout the Southern Hemisphere. The objective of the SHBWC is to facilitate cross-regional comparisons of individual blue whale photo-identifications contributing data for population assessments conducted by the IWC. Prior to analysis, the identification photographs often need to be coded for quality. This guide provides a standard for the quality coding process.
