Abstract

Report of the 6-7 April, 2019 joint IWC-IUCN-ACCOBAMS ship strike and IMMA workshop, held in Messinia, Greece. The workshop examined the use of the IUCN's Important Marine Mammal Area designations, as a potential systematic way to identify areas of high risk for ship strikes. It used the recently identified IMMAs in the Mediterranean Sea, along with AIS overlays of shipping traffic.
